This blog is dedicated to the sublime instruments called nose flutes and which produce the most divine sound ever. We have chosen to discard all the native models from S. Pacific and Asia, for they need fingering to be played. We'll concentrate on "buccal cavity driven" nose flutes : the well patented and trademarked metal or plastic ones, plus, by a condemnable indulgence, some wooden craft or home-made productions.

Cardboard nose flutes, by RON

Cardboard nose flutes seems to be very hip these days! Here is a series of tests made by RON (see here and here), with different airway cap lengths.

  1. I truly like the distinctive style of this design, which reminds me of Eastern Bloc architecture composed of unfinished concrete slabs.

However, I wonder about the direction of the blow hole inside the nose saddle as well as the angle of the nose saddle set to the mouth piece. Just how can both air exits be properly sealed off?

I really would like to know about the air split at the labium. An instructional video plus a few sound excerpts would be very welcome and helpful in that respect!
